Italian on 53rd

When looking for a place to eat I sometimes just have a direction.. Tonight I wanted to see what we could find on 53rd Street.   I was here a few months ago and between 2nd and 3rd Avenue this street is packed with restaurants,  and an Insomnia cookie.  After reviewing a few menus we selected  Angelo Bellini.   It was very good.  I had a fabulous Cosmopolitan from the bar which left me a bit stupid, and a delicious Veal Marsala… I couldn’t finish it.  The bread was good, a bit of olive oil and cheese.. voila, Im a happy camper.

Cooking with my Sous Vide

A few weeks ago I bought a dozen chicken thighs, sucked the air out of you few bags, seasoned some thighs one way, some another. Then dropped then in a big pot of water, set the Sous Vide to cook to 160 degrees, and went about my day. Wen we took them out, we freed up the skin, made a gravy and yum…

Then a few of the remaining bags went into the freezer. Tonight, before I left for the movies, I pulled out a bag, dropped in the water, set the Sous Vide to 157 degrees, and came home to some truly good chick, ready to have the skin fried to a crisp in a hot pan in butter. I think Im finally finding a great use for the sous vide.

Documentary

Monterey Pop,  it grew on me.  I keep flashing back to the scenes of happy engaged faces rocking to the music.  No cell phones, no cameras out.  How old I must be becoming if I am complaining about ‘changing times’ and feeling romantic and nostalgic for the good old days….

I just found this interesting

and have decided this blog is for me. If you join me I am happy to have you. It has turned out to be a great place to keep all things. The obvious, books, recipes, travel info. But now I find that its a great way to tuck away interesting articles and youtube videos. So when someone asks about something or I am trying to share, its right here at my fingertips.
